I am now. ( for... the most part. she worries about caroline, and there's a lot to catch up on, but for right now? she's just glad to be back. ) Please tell me I didn't miss anything too important while I was gone.
[ Well that just gives him a ton of questions, but she's back and she seems happy so some of the worry he was harboring fades. ] I'll catch you up on all the gossip. I'm in my room if you wanna stop by.
( and true to her word, there will be a knock on billy's door only ten minutes later. he'll be met with an elena that looks different, an elena that's a bit older, but it's still undeniably her.
[ He's pulling the door open when she knocks and he's pulling her into a tight hug before he can even take in the differences in her. He missed her, and had been worried she wasn't coming back- even if her stuff was still there. ]
( elena wraps her arms around billy, her hold a bit tighter than it normally used to be. she's still mindful of her newfound strength, so it wouldn't hurt. just tight enough to convey how relieved she is to find he's still here. there are never guarantees in wonderland. )
It's good to be back. And good to see most things are the same as I left them.
[ He notices the tighter embrace but doesn't say anything, not yet. For all he knows she could have spent her time at home working out. He pulls back and ushers her into the room- that's probably a disaster like any other 19 (21?) year old's room would be. ]
Same old here, mostly. It's been quiet- which in Wonderland is never a good sign. Our next event is probably going to be some sure of fire and brimstone apacolypse. [ so another normal day for them really. ]
How long were you home for? [ Elena just tell him everything because he's excited to see you. ]
( her smile turns a bit sheepish, aware that's a huge chasm to tackle. )
I'm in college now, and a lot has happened since I was last home. It's part of why I wanted us to meet, so I could tell you about it in person. ( some things will be easier to explain than others, but -- she can't imagine keeping any of it from billy. she won't. )
( elena's always found the pooch adorable, so she gives him a scritch on her way over to the couch. the dog sniffs her hand a bit -- why you smell different, elena? -- but seems to recognize her overall. )
Like I said, there's a lot of things. But one really big thing, and I should probably get it out of the way. ( it's just ... hard. she doesn't want billy to look at her any differently, or worse, to be scared of her.

[ Of all the things she could have told him that wasn't one that he had even considered. They had spoken at length about the Vampires in her world, and he knew that it was something Elena had never wanted for herself, even if it meant being with the man she loved.
He takes that in, and what he knows about her vampires and he reacts probably not in the way she is expecting. She's Elena, she's his best friend and he trusts her more than anyone. If she was a danger to him than she never would have come here. He reaches out and pulls her into another hug. ]
( elena relaxes in billy's arms eventually. she should've given him more credit, but for all the growth she's had in coming into her own as a vampire, there's still a tiny part of her that judges what she's become. and if she judges it, how could she expect anyone else not to?
her smile is sad, and maybe a tad watery. )

( and it was an awful transition, but giving billy details would only serve to upset him needlessly. ) It was feed or ... ( stay dead. ) I ultimately don't regret the choice I made, even if I used to at times. This is who I am now.
[ That hits him hard. Really hard and he hugs her tighter. Hearing that she died when he wasn't there to try and protect her- when he couldn't be there because he wasn't from her world...it was like a punch to the gut. He hated that, he hated that he couldn't be there for her and that one day they would both go their separate ways and never remember each other.
I'm sorry I couldn't save you. He doesn't say though though, because it's no use and he doesn't want to upset her or make it about him. ]
I'm sorry that you had to go through that, but I'm not sorry that you're still able to be here.
( elena sinks into the embrace, her own hold on him tightening as a bittersweet smile touches her lips. )

( she lifts her head from billy's shoulder, her knuckles briefly brushing his chin so that he'll look at her. ) Being a vampire isn't always easy, but I get to live. It's a good thing. I promise. It just felt weird not to tell you. ( even if she'll likely keep it a secret from most everyone else, at least for now. )
[ He looks at her and he nods. He believes her if she tells him it's a good thing. ] I'm glad you told me, and if you're happy than I'm happy for you. [ Because he's easy like that.
He debates asking the next question but he can't not.] How's Bonnie?
( thank god billy asks her after she's talked with damon. )
She's -- Bonnie and Damon are in trouble. ( when are they ever not in trouble, any one of them? ) They're trapped in a prison world together. But it's Bonnie. She finds them a way out. ( she always finds a way. )
Hey. It's ok. [ He reaches out for her hand and gives it a squeeze. ] you're okay, that's what counts right now. Not things we have no control over. Besides, you said she gets out, that's a good thing.
[ A change of subject might be in order, he wants to see her smile again. ] I went on a date.
Better than I expected? [ Which was a relief. ] It was sweet, he got us burgers and then we watched Jurassic Park. And we talked a lot.
I don't remember the last time we really sat down and talked. Even before I got here. [ It was a little eye opening- how much their relationship needed help. ]
