( elena slowly shakes her head, eyes bright with a telltale sting. )

I wish I had better news. ( something better than 'i died and now i'm a vampire and bonnie is trapped in a prison world with my boyfriend.'

but there's hardly ever good news. )

Hey. It's ok. [ He reaches out for her hand and gives it a squeeze. ] you're okay, that's what counts right now. Not things we have no control over. Besides, you said she gets out, that's a good thing.

[ A change of subject might be in order, he wants to see her smile again. ] I went on a date.

Better than I expected? [ Which was a relief. ] It was sweet, he got us burgers and then we watched Jurassic Park. And we talked a lot.

I don't remember the last time we really sat down and talked. Even before I got here. [ It was a little eye opening- how much their relationship needed help. ]
