Character Name: Billy Kaplan
Canon: Marvel Comics (616)
Canon Point: Post Empyre
Age: 21
Background: Billy Kaplan Wikia
Arrival Scenario: Solvunn
Suitability:
- Billy is a superhero. He’s been a superhero since he was 16 and he got his powers; even when adults were telling him “no” there was something inside him that was telling him that if he had these powers it was his responsibility to help people. He might stumble along the way but that’s always been his driving force. This is why he will feel drawn into helping once he is told why he was brought here and what’s going on. But he is experienced enough to know not to just take the word of his “summoners” as law. He will have to dig around to find out what's really going on. That likely means befriending the other Summoned and getting to know them, gaining their trust.
- Clairvoyance: Billy has shown the ability to gain information by other means than his physical senses. With brief periods of intense concentration, he can gain knowledge of a subject's location and its current state. It is notably highly difficult, though not impossible for him to locate those he is unfamiliar with, or only loosely associated with. He can also track down and sense or read someone's energy or those of the environment.
- Concussive Force Blast: Can generate and manipulate energy to project blasts of concussive force with different shapes and intensities, including, beams, bursts, bolts and waves.
- Creation: Billy can use his reality warping abilities in order to warp existence and create anything from nothing. He has created clothing, decor, objects, and food from seemingly nothing in the past.
- Erasure: Due to his reality warping powers Billy can disintegrate and erase anything from existence.
- Elemental Manipulation: Billy has shown the ability to influence and control several elements and aspects of nature.
- Electrokinesis: The primary form of elemental manipulation Wiccan is most used to is his electrokinetic powers. He can manipulate, generate, and discharge energy projections as either lightning or electricity from his hands or other parts of his body. Which gives him control over electric fields, electric charges, electric currents, electronics, and electromagnetism. Billy is capable of combining or performing his electrokinetic powers in unison with spells
- Cryokinesis: Has the ability to control, generate, or absorb ice
- Hydrokinesis: Can manipulate and control water.
- Photokinesis: Can project intense light and heat.
- Pyrokinesis: Can generate and control fire.
- Flight: Billy can engage in self-propelled flight and has shown to be able to give others the ability to do so. He can also levitate.
- Teleportation: Can teleport himself and others over undetermined distances with an untested maximum. He can also travel to and open gates or portals accessing other worlds, places, and dimensions.
- Healing: Can quickly heal others through his spells However, the effectiveness of this healing can be greatly affected by his will to do it or if he has trouble focusing his mind on healing the target.
- Solid Energy Constructs: Billy can generate and manipulate energy to create solid constructs such as disks, orbs, shields, platforms, force fields, and other projectiles or constructions
- Telekinesis: Can levitate, propel and manipulate objects and matter with his mind
- Transmutation: Billy can turn, transmute and alter anything into anything else. He has changed his and his teammates' street clothes into their hero uniforms. He has also transformed a bunch of frogs back into humans, right after the Enchantress had transmuted them.
This will become especially true when he realizes that Avengers from an alternate world are here. Especially Wanda, who is his mother. He will definitely be looking to meet them and bond with them, see what they know. See what they have been doing here if they are trying to get home. He will help them in any way he can. Especially his mother. It's also important to note that he has been on and off superhero teams many times throughout the years and he knows how to be a team player and he's also a pretty good leader when he has to step up to be.
In Solvunn he will probably end up a storyteller and a babysitter at the start. He’s good with kids, having two much younger brothers and always having to help out with them growing up. He also has no shortage of adventures he can tell the children about to keep them entertained. Once most of his powers come back he would also volunteer to clear out roads from monsters. He’s pretty good in a fight and can definitely escort people who need help.
As a self-proclaimed magic and mythology nerd, he will also definitely want to learn everything he can about the magic of the world, the gods of Solvunn, and the singularity. He already has the ability to practice magic, but his magic is different from what he would encounter here (it's actually more like the description of Fae magic which would interest me to play with somehow if possible). He would go out of his way to learn all about the magic of this world and also get a kick out of learning spells and researching.
Powers:
- Billy is both a mutant and a mage and it's believed that he inherited his powers from his mother, The Scarlet Witch. His powers are:
Reality Warping/Chaos Magic:
- Billy's main power is the ability to manipulate and warp reality which allows him to tap into various forms of mystical energy in the universe. His magic is based on his wants, when he wants something to happen he has to chant and visualize it happening. As he has grown stronger since his teenage years he can mostly cast spells without chanting unless he is doing a spell that requires a vast amount of concentration. The chaos magic also gives him the following abilities:
He is the future Demiurge which means one day he will “rewrite the laws of magic and the effects of that will echo backward and forwards through time and reality”, he has tapped into this power before but he mostly leaves it alone because it scares the shit out of him.
(OOC: I know he's ridiculously OP, and I know he won't be able to teleport, so whatever nerfing needs to be done is fine with me. )
PERSONALITY QUESTIONS
Describe an important event in your character's life and how it impacted them.
There have been a lot of important events in Billy’s life that have shaped him and his journey. Some good, meeting the love of his life, some bad, getting possessed by an inter-dimensional eldritch horror, but the most important event that lead to all of that was getting his powers. It was a normal school day for 15-year-old Billy. He was doing what he normally did, avoiding routes that his bully took so that he wouldn’t run into him. It had been working for a few weeks and the bruises on his body were finally beginning to fade. He could definitely have spent the next two years of high school doing this, and he probably would have, if he didn’t run across someone else getting bullied in lieu of him. Well, he couldn’t stand up for himself but he couldn’t stand someone else going through what he did. So he stepped up, calling the bigger boy out and telling him to leave the other kid alone. The bully was only too happy to, going back after Billy. As his fist was flying toward Billy’s face, all Billy could do was wish that he had the power to stop him and people like him. Well, the next thing he knew lightning was shooting out of his hands and electrocuting the other boy. Shocked and horrified Billy did the only thing he could think of- he ran.
It wasn’t too long after that that Billy was approached by Iron Lad about a team he was putting together with a few other super-powered teens. Billy, knowing that if he had these powers then it was his responsibility to help people easily agreed to join (also he was going to become a superhero- how cool was that?!?). This team would soon become the Young Avengers. Billy would go on to meet his best friends, his twin brother, and the love of his life with this group. He would finally be a part of something, and people would like him and respect him. He would find his mother, The Scarlet Witch, and he would help save the world and the universe a few times over. The entire direction of his life was changed on that fateful day his powers revealed themselves and though there were ups and downs and he lost people he loved, he never regretted the day he stood up for someone else because it was the right thing to do.
Does your character have a moral code, or other set of standards they try to live by?
Being a superhero a moral code is kind of part of the job. It can also mean that sometimes there might be a gray area. Do no harm kind of flies out the window when a villain is trying to kill him and he has to hurt them to subdue them. But a basic moral code of doing good and helping people drives him. He has a rule, “young avengers don’t kill”; no matter the circumstance that is a hard no for Billy. He will subdue but he will never kill, that's where the line is drawn. He hopes there never comes a day when he has to think about crossing it.
What quality or qualities do they admire most?
Loyalty, honesty, and kindness. Everything that his husband embodies basically. Billy might have loyalty in droves and he’s kind- he is a superhero afterall, but he doesn’t think that he matches up to Teddy. He watches his husband rule an alliance with compassion and kindness and sacrifice and he knows he will never be that person. He isn’t sure that when push comes to shove he would always choose the greater good- if the sacrifice was his family, his husband…he knows he would choose them always. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, putting those he loves first, but in his line of work, the cost could be hundreds. He knows this because when they were attacked on their honeymoon Billy’s only thought was to keep Teddy safe and to get him home at all costs, and Teddy had to stop him and convince him to save their soldiers that had been overtaken by Symbiotes. If Teddy hadn’t asked, Billy would have left them to die, without hesitation. Teddy keeps him balanced and keeps him looking at the bigger picture. Those are the qualities he admires the most as the struggles to embody them in his life.
Do they have a part of themselves they dislike?
His anxiety and depression. Billy has had mental health problems since his late teens, which is not all that surprising since he was bullied for most of his young adult life. It wasn’t until he got his powers and joined the Young Avengers that he even had friends or felt like he was part of something. Then everything happened all at once, friends, a brother, a boyfriend, superhero responsibilities of keeping people and the world safe, his powers being a lot more than he could handle. When he was 17 two of his teammates were killed in what Billy considers his fault (it really wasn’t but that’s neither here nor there). That broke him a little. He quit the team, made everyone else quit the team, and went through a very long bout of depression where no one could get through to him. It got so bad that his boyfriend had to break down in tears and angrily propose to him to get him to feel anything again. After that things sort of started to get better, but he was just a teenager and he needed more help than just his boyfriend could provide. His guilt at what happened, and at realizing that he wasn’t being the best boyfriend and neglecting Teddy (who was also dealing with his mother’s death on top of their teammates dying). It’s his mental health issues (and Loki) that play a part in him trying to bring Teddy back his mom and in doing so brings about a villain who wants to steal Billy’s powers and take over the multiverse. The easiest way to get rid of her would be for him to not exist and he does try to end his own life twice because he thinks he’s the problem and that he’s not worth it.
He has been better the last few years than he was when he was in his late teens, but it’s still there. Intrusive thoughts make him doubt himself and his actions. Thoughts that cause him to make reckless decisions and make things worse at times. He still has hard days, days where he lets them get him down, but he also has a good support system and he leans on them when he needs to. Still, he knows life would just be a little easier if his brain wasn’t against him most days. It’s the one thing he would change about himself and it’s the one this his magic can’t fix- he’s tried.
What is their sign, and why? The Hanged Man. Billy has always been looked at as an outcast. Growing up he was never afraid to be himself, nerdy and gay, those were things that got him ostracized by his fellow classmates. Then he added mutant to that list, and then superhero. None of these things lets him be “normal” at least not as society dictates it. And he always accepted that about himself, he isn’t scared to be exactly who he is and he would never change that for anyone. Even when he was severely bullied in high school, he has proven to be resilient to being different.
